Monday was Labor Day, and we had over 100 volunteers show up to continue to serve our city! We’re so thankful for all of you that spent your 3 day weekend working hard and love the people around us.
We are also so thankful for community. Both locally, and for the churches and people that we are connected with around the country, and the world. Many of you have been praying, checking in, and donating financially, and we’re so appreciative of you! This was also the first week that churches from outside of Houston began to send teams of people here to work alongside us.
This past week we had three different groups here from churches in Indiana, California, and the D.C. area. A lot of our own people had to go back to work on Tuesday, and having teams from out of state here to partner with us has been invaluable. With this help and the OneLifers that were available, we were able to continue to clean out homes, provide food, and offer babysitting for our volunteers.
We also had people driving around neighborhoods grilling food for people, and we started the “Moms in Minivans” crew – a group of awesome ladies that have been going out into neighborhoods together with a trunk full of supplies and donuts to offer to people that are out working. One of these moms commented that she doesn’t always think of listening as supplying a need, but that God has been teaching her that it is. And this group has had story after story of God using them in that way. The people in our community are hurting, tired, and devastated by what has happened, and we’re so thankful for this group of ladies that are providing snacks and supplies, as well as taking time out of their days to pray with people and listen to their stories.
We’re blown away by all of the ways that God is continuing to move in the midst of tragedy, and so thankful for each of you that are continuing to work hard to serve the Bay Area of Houston.
If you would like to work with us, we are continuing to meet at the OneLife Clear Lake building everyday at 9:00 am to grab supplies and split into clean-up teams, and we would love to have you join us! If you are interested in getting involved this week, but are unable to serve on a clean-up team, there are multiple ways for you to volunteer.
